What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is now recognised as an effective treatment for a wide range of painful disorders. It is a system of diagnosis and treatment which examines and corrects structural changes within the body which affect daily function.
Gentle manipulation will help ease restrictions allowing the body to perform at its optimum level. This helps to naturally relieve pain and restore function.
Advice on rehabilitation, posture, ergonomics and exercise will help to speed recovery and prevent reoccurrence of injury.
It is available to patients of all ages and each treatment is tailor made to the individual.

National institute of clinical guidelines (NICE) on management of Low back pain May 2009 –
Recent guidelines suggest that manual therapy such as that provided by Osteopaths should be considered by GP’s as a cost effective approach for treating low back pain.
The UK back pain exercise and manipulation trial (UKBEAM 2004) confirmed that patients receiving manipulation as well as exercise and advice did better, both short and long term, than those that did not. This trial included 1334 participants.
Another indicator of best practice are the NICE guidelines for osteoarthritis (Feb 2008). They recommend the use of manual therapy (manipulation and stretching), and strenghthening excercises and advice, as part of the intervention package.
